America's Cup Naples - Winds gust at 22 knots ...

Robust 22 knot winds and huge waves - more suited to a round-the-world race - caused havoc to the nine-boat fleet competing in the Americas Cup series in Naples.

The AC45 catamarans took a drubbing. Artemis capsized and China Team and Oracle 5 both retired from the Second Race.  Team New Zealand grinder Winston Macfarlane was seriously injured and has been replaced by Jeremy Lomas. Winstone was thrown against the boom and suffered severe bruising to his legs.

The AC72 catamarans to be used later in the Americas Cup series have been designed to sail in 35 knot winds.  Spectacular sailing!
